$2.5K and $10K Prototype Boards

For those folks interested in building their own version of linux for these prototype boards, Digilent provides a pdf (https://www.digilentinc.com/Data/Produc ... _Guide.pdf) which explains the entire process. This includes building the kernel (https://github.com/Digilent/linux-digilent) which contains custom drivers for the onboard peripherals and attachable Pmods for the ZedBoard. Support for the Epiphany daughter card will be provided, once Adapteva releases the necessary documention and associated sources.

The prototype boards currently ship with an Ubuntu Desktop version of Linaro.org (http://www.linaro.org), but I plan on building a developer version on a second SD card, since I will eventually run this board headless and will have no need for a GUI. Right now, I am still running a GUI, but with only 512MB of RAM on these prototype boards, I decided to replace Gnome with DWM, since it is considerably more lightweight.

Well, my initial plan was to run a developer build of Linaro (Ubuntu), simply because it is a stripped down version of what is currently running on these prototype boards. I typically run Linux Mint Debian Edition, as I too am a fan of Debian. I guess I should do some research to see what other distros have solid ARM support.

Hi Sundance, Thank You for Your comment. Yes, as I guessed there is a 'free solution' for this. (Tell the true: During the ISE installation the installer application could not able to load the default browser, so there was a missing license file. This is why I used '?!' marks. I will try it again tomorrow.) Regards, Gabor.

FYI,

I (and several other folks) have had problems with the SD cards that come with the ZedBoard. They go flaky after a bit. If these cards were re-purposed for these systems, then perhaps that's the culprit?

Just a thought.
