Hello,

I just was curious if anyone would know:

If I were to buy a class 10 microSD card will this help boot up the OS quicker on start up (vs a class 6 or whatever)? Would it matter that much between classes? Is there a max data rate that the parallella board can handle, if so what is it?

Various flash memory tests across the net show that more than a class, the specific type of card is more important.

Another issue is the reliability of these cards. Our experience is that not all cards are made equal (duh!). The first batch we used on the ZedBoard proved to be unreliable and many got corrupted after a few weeks of use.

You should consult online forums like Raspberry Pi's for a suggestion, as their user base is huge, with lots of experience.

A good resource for Raspberry Pi SD card speeds is http://elinux.org/RPi_SD_cards#SD_card_performance.

There seems to be three tiers of read performance - 4MB/s, 11MB/s and 19MBs.

Some cards are very weak (Kingston SDHC 32GB class 10 = 4.7MB/s) and others are very strong (SanDisk Ultra II SDHC 4GB class 4 (15 MB/s) = 20.9MB/s). I take that to indicate that some manufactures are stamping lower 'Class' ratings on higher spec cards rather than acutally manufacturing lower performing parts.
