what can parallela be used for

i am a bit confused as to what parallela can be used for. someone said you could use it to turn you tv into a smart tv and play games on it. So does this mean parallella runs like a cpu and how do i go about connecting it to my tv thanks

this is a really stupic question but since i can turn it into a computer where would i insert the cd for the game and how can i improve the graphics
also if i were to download games straight do i need to buy an external harddrive to store the games
