opensource hardware with plan9

Plan 9 developers are creating "aijuboard" mini computer, using open-source hardware with FPGA GPU, no binary blobs or NDAs

so it seems to be possible porting plan9 on parallella/aijuboard.

Very cool. Now, I'm clearly biased, but I have to ask: why not just use Parallella? This would seem to make way more sense, given that it exists now, is cheaper and has the Epiphany — which could be quite an interesting target for Plan 9.

So, I don't really get it, unless one of the main motivations is just to build another SBC from scratch.
