Parallella and Linux newbie

I have an application that uses USB to communicate with the FPGA. I need to modify it to use a SPI bus.

Is there a guide to enabling and using the SPI bus?

I am more of a hardware/firmware person and am new to Linux. My company has a Linux expert, but I am in charge of getting the hardware working. Detailed instructions are greatly appreciated. Pretend I know nothing.
