SDHC memory card performance gain

Postby Quantum » Mon Aug 19, 2013 9:56 pm

Would there be any benefit speed wise if I were to purchase one of these http://www.adorama.com/IDSEPMSU16GB.html over the usual sandisk ultra 16GB SDHC that comes with the accessory bundle? By speed benefit I mean enough gain that I should consider throwing $50 on a better card?

I've found with other ARM based Linux boxes that the speed/class of the SDHC card has made little difference to overall user experience.

They all perform really nice when SSHed onto (as quick as any other server), but with a full GUI they are almost painfully slow do to their lack of H/W graphics acceleration.

However, at http://geek.mgorecki.net/index.php/2013 ... pberry-pi/ a Raspberry Pi was tested with two cards - a Class 4 and and a Class 10 UHS-1. Write went from 4.6MB/s to 19MB/s, read went from 18MB/s to 23MB/s.
