* Obsoleted. Don't apply this tips.
(Improved on the newer kernel)
If you face a problem while booting, please boot without connecting HDMI and USB devices, then connect devices after booting.
HDMI switcher and USB switcher are convenient to do so.
The green Ethernet LED blinks in 10-20 seconds after power-on when it successfully boots.
If the LED does not blink, press the reset button and try again.

(Solved.)
The issue:
Low-pitched sound (about 10%)

I don't know how to fix this.

Does anyone have a list of the Parallella-specific components (things not part of Ubuntu) required to make this boot and run? Because I'd really like to try a minimal Debian install on mine. It's a lot easier to build up what you need than it is to strip out all of the Ubuntu cruft and obfuscation; too many dependencies. How it ever found a home in embedded projects is beyond me. Only reason I can think of is that Ubuntu == Linux for a lot of people.

For starters, is the kernel custom (w.r.t. Ubuntu that is)?

currently ephiphany access is through /dev/mem, it is almost a vanilla configuration except certain zynq related adaptation.

I'm not sure if there is a canonical list, but this would be a very good thing to have and I'll see if we can put one together. Other Linux distros aside, I am sure there will be people who would like to use their boards with the various BSDs and other O/S.

For now, I'd expect there to be a lot of clues in the Yocto meta-parallella and meta-xilinx layers.

Cheers,

Andrew

The low-high-pitched sound issue has solved in this way. It became perfect! :D
(I have removed PulseAudio.)

(sudo apt-get install nano)
nano ~/.asoundrc

Code: Select all
pcm.!default {
 type rate
 slave {
  pcm "hw:0"
  rate 48000
 }
 converter "samplerate"
}

Extremely cool — thanks for sharing details of how to do this, Shodruk! :D

I've updated the wiki with a link to a page for this (in red — needs creating). Do you think you could create the page and add details? I'm happy to do this, but better you get the credit and it should be largely a case of cut and paste.

Cheers,

Andrew
