So what will you be doing with your Parallella?

Parallel lisp is something I too am very interested in exploring on this platform. I guess this would give me an excuse to dig into lparallel (http://lparallel.org) a bit further.

SDR mostly. I think the combination of FPGA logic and epiphany will allow for nice combinations.

I took Andrew Ng's Stanford/Coursera course in Machine Learning, and was near the end when someone mentioned the Parallella Kickstarter project in the class forum. There was only a day left on Kickstarter so I made a snap decision to buy in simply because it sounded like it would lend itself to some of the applications we were studying in the class. My hazy ideas at the moment revolve around video facial/pattern/object recognition and enhanced security system functions.

As a retired engineer just looking to learn new material and have a little fun, I don't expect to do Great Things, but it should be educational. I decided worst case would be just be another box on the pile of unfinished projects in the corner.

I'm interested in learning more about parallel programing (and programing in general) Would also be interested in BOINC projects like a few other people. Software Defined Radio sounds real interesting, working to interface hardware on to the board.

I plan to run a minecraft server on the board. The server is written in java.
This will be a bit of an involved project. The Java Virtual Machine that I will be using uses LLVM to do the JIT.
Pipeline: Server-> shark JVM-> LLVM IR -> auto parallelization-> epiphany optimization pass-> code generator
