microsoft 'HPU' (in hololens) .. vs Parallella

supposedly microsoft's hollowness augmented reality device includes a specialised processor aimed at handling real world inputs, if i've understood correctly - aimed at accelerating spatial mapping from the cameras, gesture recognition ,etc.

Are these the kind of workloads for which the Parallella might out-perform CPUs and GPUs ?

from Gamedev experience I've seen this '3rd type of processor' appear before - sony PS2 'VU0', Sony PS3 CELL, PC PhysX; - and subsequently be defeated by CPU getting more cores & SIMD throuput, and GPU getting more general.

However Microsoft seem to think there is still a need for another type of processing. Perhaps the new input intensive workloads demand a shift as radical as when CPU's gained complimentary GPU's
