Making a bootable sdcard

Postby Lou_Reed » Wed Nov 12, 2014 5:59 pm

Do the instruction shown here:

http://www.parallella.org/create-sdcard/

take care of the boot patition? I am asking because after I followed them (admittedly on a Windows 7 machine)
the Parallellla did not boot up.

This time I will do them, but use linux Ubuntu (which I know much better than Windows 7)
to create a bootable sdcard.

Thanks in advance.

Respectfully,

Step 2 & 3 of the first section download the appropriate files for the boot partition.
Then you need to select the three files you need based on the board type and whether you want headless or with HDMI and copy them to the Boot partition (Step 4 of the windows instructions)
Finally you need to rename the xxx.bit.bin file to parallella.bit.bin (Step 5 of the windows instructions

I see that. I will do it in Linux, however, since I know OS that better. However, what about this link:

https://github.com/parallella/parallella-ubuntu

It seems to pay special attention to the parallella boot partition.

Thanks for your help.

These instructions (on the github link you sent) are detailed instructions of how to build the Linux sector with Ubuntu Linux, not the Boot partition which is a separate effort.
You will notice there are sections for uboot and parallella-bin which explain how to build/download the files for the boot partition.
Both of these are for the expert user whereas the instructions on the parallella.org website are for simple starting - the Ubuntu Linux partition is ready to use and the boot files are simply downloaded and copied to the boot partition.
