Parallella Ubuntu 14.04 release

I am checking to see which 14.04 image to download, whether 7010 of 7020 as the heatsink hides the ZYNQ.

Trying to get my Parallella up and running. This would be a 7010 chip with the large heatsink already in the box. Followed the Linux SD build instructions using the 6/11 linked Ubuntu image, the headless kernel files. Initially boot failed at:

LEDs are not blinking and the heatsink is doing its job (warm). I am not a Linux pro so any ideas what I should try next? I will try the HDMI versions for giggles.

Just to be sure that you use the headless kernel and FPGA bitstream, or the HDMI kernel and bitstream, but not a mismatch of the two.

Can you try to log in via SSH (ascertain IP from your router). And if your board is not getting an IP address, you can try mounting the SD card's root filesystem from another computer and deleting the file:

etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

Then unmount the SD card, reinsert into the board, boot and see if it gets leased an IP address.

Not mixing and matching bitstreams. Seems to be hanging on the hardware clock (different from the RTC) - went through that step once before hanging up. I will get the necessary pieces of hardware to run the HDMI setup and see what happens.

OK, let me know how you get on with the HDMI config. May even be worth trying it without a monitor and keyboard etc. to see if it's any different / you can SSH in.

i have been trying the headless configuration with the UART enabled and cannot get to a login prompt. Are you suggesting that SSH is already installed? If that were true, I could disable the UART (as in some other threads) in the device tree and use ethernet to get in. How about a wifi dongle? I have been using that with my RPi and BBB successfully. Let me know if SSH is going to be there to try (still very noobie on linux). Thanks in advance for the help.

The SSH server software should be installed and you don't need to disable the UART in order to connect via SSH.

If you connect your board to the network booting, power it up and then a few minutes later log in to your router to see if it has leased an IP address to the board via DHCP. Once you know the address you can then SSH in via the user "linaro".

Excellent. I will try that tonight. HDMI adapter is on order (need to get to VGA - I know, I know, old monitor) so I should be able to try that next week.
