Measuring power consumption

Postby adeshpande » Tue Jul 22, 2014 2:12 am

Is there any way to track how much power the board is using? (Or how much power the cores are using?)

Yes, to measure how much power the board is consuming you would put an ammeter in series with the power supply, or use a power supply that has one built in.

If you wanted to measure how much power the Epiphany chip is consuming, you would have to intercept its power supply and I'm not sure if that is easily doable, but you could always take a look at the :)

AFAIK there isn't any capability within the Epiphany that would let you measure energy consumption at a core level.

If you are looking for a low cost and high accuracy / high sample rate energy measurement solution, I can recommend the (disclosure: I'm involved with the project).

The MAGEEC project seems interesting. Does it measure the board power consumption or the chip power consumption?

I found this link that shows how to measure the Epiphany chip power on a Parallella Prototype board.

http://www.adapteva.com/white-papers/me ... ype-board/

Is there any way we could do the same for one of these boards?

Thanks

Hi TIm, thanks for the reply. I see that the Prototype Board uses makrings like TP2,TP4,TP9, etc. On my board, I hav similar but not those exact markings. I have TP12,TP13,TP14,TP15.

Do you think that there is any correlation or no?

And so what would TP2,TP4, and TP9 be? And what is the difference between those and the TP12,13,14,15?

Sorry, I think there is a link that has this information. Can someone direct me to it?

Thanks
