64 core in a 16 core slot

Being lazy I am asking if I can pop out the 16 core and replace them with a 64 core chips on my soon to arrive boards?

In short: no. This is mainly because the Epiphany chips are in BGA packages and, unless you have access to some pretty specialist equipment and are skilled in BGA rework, successfully removing one and soldering a new one is going to be near impossible, and attempting to do so will almost certainly destroy the board and chip(s).

Also, while the E16 and E64 are pretty much pin-compatible, ISTR the power supply requirements are different and there may be other differences in the completed assemblies, even if the PCB design is the same.

I guess I'll have to save up for a 64 chip 64 core array for... for... for... just for the hell of it.
