Greatly appreciate the offer, will take you up on that I imagine! I'll look into what's required of the adapter board, should be able to spin a few at some point.

On the plus side since the OpenADC uses the 'PMOD' interface, any of the Digilent Inc boards also using that interface would work on my adapter board too. Someone mentioned another user looking at designing them, will look into that too.

I know that i'm late to the party, and that this thread is a year old, but a lot of things has happened in the last year.

Has anyone looked at this chip from Analog?

It has both ADC and DAC running at 112MHz(?) and 12 bits, with a tunable bandwidth of between 200KHz and 56MHz.
On top of that it has a built in Up/Down converter with a tunable range of 70MHz to 6GHz.
It also has 6 single ended inputs or 3 differential inputs. Outputs are two differential drivers.

This is an complete SDR front end in a single chip.

Snag: The price, at $130 in quantities of 184, and it's 144 ball BGA.

There is an FMC board, with SD card images for the ZED board is available for $400. The FMC board can be seen here:

It will also make a very nice base for a Vector Network Analyzer.

Anyone interested in making an add-on board for the Parallella?

Using sata connectors/cables for this chip would be a waste. Why lay out a 6 or 10 layer board just to use sata connectors? You would also need several cables.

Then it would be simpler to design an FYI to Paralleled adaptor board as FMC is a standard ADC/DAC interface.

I will probably create an adaptor board like this, but I will need a solution sooner for test setup, so I will just have to buy a zedboard and FMC card, which will set me back $800, still cheaper than your $1000 estimate...
