Hi Gravis,

For the 4.7 branch, the documentation that is automatically built has some comments that are now parsed as incorrect by version 5 of makeinfo, so that is why you are seeing that error.

For the 4.8 branches, I am assuming you just ran 'make' after configure. This tries to build some libraries (libgcc, libstdc++) that require the target assembler. As that isn't available the build is failing. If you try 'make all-gcc' and to install 'make install-gcc' instead of just make and make install, that should fix your problem.

Probably unrelated to your issue, but I downloaded the whole development source code as a zip from github on a windows box and it failed to put all the files into the zip. The zip downloaded OK but the files just stopped halfway through a directory which caused horrible make problems. git clone worked fine.

This is because you didn't build libgcc (because that was the original problem). I didn't realise you had built everything else separately, just that you wanted ONLY the compiler and not the libraries.

If you still have your build directory, add the assembler/linker build elsewhere to your PATH and run 'make all-target-libgcc all-target-newlib all-target-libstdc++' and 'make install-target-libgcc install-target-newlib install-target-libstdc++' and the configure should pick up the new tools. Otherwise you will have to do the initial configure again to build the libraries. This should then allow you to compile.

This may be obvious, but why don't you use the build-toolchain.sh script? It will build the tool chain and libraries for you.
