Generally speaking, we intend for the host target compiler to be whatever toolchain you prefer, as long as it can link with libe-hal.so, and is more-or-less consistent with the naming convention of the GNU toolchain.
If you see that your host code compiles as an x86 code, it probably means that you use gcc as your build command on the x86, while the correct name for the ARM cross tools should be a-gcc (and a-*** in general).
