How to use mutex in eSDK

I am confused with the effective range of a mutex, in one core or all cores? I think the purpose of mutex is to lock shared resource between all cores and it should effective in every core after init. But the mutex APIs in esdk need core coordinate when init, lock and unlock, is that mean a mutex will only effective in one core?
Is there any code example of mutex?
