It uses a samtech connector; and has a similar purpose.

I *think* it would be compatible.
But you would need to double check the gender and pin outs.

I just quickly tried the Zebax Samtec breakout board I use with my Parallella in a BladeRF and can confirm it is the same connector. But, as you say, need to confirm the pin out is compatible!

Cheers,

Andrew

I had a quick look at the pin out diagrams. They are different (one has a lit more earth pins).
It may still work but only half of the pins would be accessible.
But would need to be careful to tie all the unusable pins low.
I only had a quick look you will need to double check every last pin, particularly the power pins.

So might be an ok option, but not great.

Pretty sure that a breakout board is still on the cards and it's likely just a matter of getting the Parallella boards out first — priorities and all that.

I've also been thinking about making some breakout/expansion boards myself, but the idea is still percolating and not fully decided on features yet. Plus I need to look into assembly costs properly.

Cheers,

Andrew

Those damn connectors are so expensive, its hard to do anything hardware wise :(

Anybody found any cheap (in the UK for me) source of the them? Currently its looking like the BSH's will cost more than the entire parellela, once shipping, taxes etc?

Anybody know a factory in china who could knock up some cheap one's?

Now that we have parallella boards in our brands is there any hope for breakout boards which doesn't cost $80 as the one referenced in blog post about LCD screen?

I think AB Open or Sundance will make a reasonable price GPIO breakout board. :D

Not yet, nor a price, but we get a pretty good price from Samtec because of the volumes we're already doing. -Fred

I've been thinking about making some sort of breakout/expansion board, but it would have to do something different to the "official" breakout and it's just a thought at this point.
