The jumper is used to select whether power is taken via the barrel connector or the USB connector next to the Ethernet jack, so, yes, if you plan to power it via the latter keep the jumper in that position.

Thanks for the reply. I found this post [http://forums.parallella.org/viewtopic.php?p=6731#p6731] about the ECO fix.

It seems the U13 was the part burning out, and in later runs it was removed completely. If you have a bunch of blank pads and just a smt resistor where U13 is labelled near the USB port the fix is already in place on your board. I still wouldn't power it this way, but this change was specifically implemented to prevent the burnout issue, so I don't think I've hurt anything (i hope!).

Thanks again for bringing a product like this to market. I'm sure it was a herculean effort.
